Astrakhan Reception lightship

To the main page

Astrakhansky-priyomniy (Astrakhan Reception) is the same type lightship as Irbensky. Until recently it has been located in the Caspian sea pointing the place where deep waterway to Astrakhan port begins.

Parallel to navigation function it had been used as the hydrometeorological station base. In the annual report for 2007 Russian hydrometeorological service indicated that the station on the lightship is closed due to lack of funding to repair the vessel. In 2007-2008 the lightship that was left unemployed and not financed was partly cut. Its mast was established as a beacon at the base of the hydrographic fleet on the Caspian Sea. The body of the vessel still expects to be cut by the pier...

Should Irbensky lightship share same destiny - Russia remains with not a single lightship to be preserved for memorial purposes.
